About Me

My name is Amy Thacker. I was born and raised in Kansas City. I have been happily married for almost 14 years and moved to Nebraska at that time. I have 3 remarkable boys (his, mine, and ours). I lived in Alliance up until 2018, and now reside in Sidney. I started working for Leyton Public Schools in the Fall of 2019 and love working with such a great team of teachers. I don’t have a lot of free time as my boys keep me busy with their school related events and extracurriculars. I do love spending time with my family and taking weekend trips to anywhere within a 4 to 5 hour commute. I enjoy taking care of our home, cleaning, landscaping, reading, and traveling whenever I get the opportunity.

Philosophy of Education

I have been a teacher my entire adult life. It is all I know. I was born to teach. Inspiring young minds and helping children reach success educationally is a passion of mine. I encourage children with the same desire to find their “greatness.” I create an environment where children can work and challenge themselves. I believe it is important to build upon a child’s existing foundation and help them achieve their goals and become lifelong learners. This is my #1 priority as a teacher. All children deserve the same education, one that provides children with a positive learning experience which allows them to participate in activities without fear of failure. My classroom is fun, but structured; tough, but rewarding; and is teacher facilitated, but student centered. My classroom is rich in the different modalities and encompasses multiple intelligences. I have multiple techniques that are successful, and use differentiation on a daily basis to increase mastery of concepts. I believe that teaching is a team occupation. Whether working with a group of students, administration, parents, or other teachers or staff, I am there to contribute my knowledge and expertise to the team.
