About MeI am a Michigan born, Mississippi raised Southern mom to three incredible young men. I have been married to my husband, Chris-a Leyton alum, for over twenty-seven years. We are a retired military family and were fortunate to have lived in six different states. My proven strength stemming from being an educator with 15+ years of experience is cultivating a positive workplace environment. This, coupled with my dedicated focus on educational development for ALL students is critical in my role serving as the Leyton Elementary/Junior High Principal. I enjoy traveling to see my boys in Michigan, Virginia, and North Carolina whenever possible. In addition I could sit on the beach and read for an endless amount of time. My favorite country to explore so far has been Italy.
Philosophy of EducationAs an educator it is my belief that all children can thrive in a learning environment that is stimulating, comforting, and appropriate to their abilities. Students must feel comfortable in the classroom environment and be provided with a variety of teaching styles and learning modalities that effectively aid their learning. I believe that each student must be reached on a personal and academic level. Knowing the learner is the first step to developing a trusting teacher/learner relationship. Children come to school from diverse backgrounds and with different family values and beliefs. It is my job to establish connections for each individual student in some way. In addition, learning must be made relevant to our students’ lives so they can understand the importance of a good education and become successful in every classroom. Teachers should serve as guides for empowering students with the knowledge to become self-directed learners and successful and contributing members to our society.
